closing down shop. thanks for joining us tonight. we'll see you again monday fr a jam packed show. rush limbaugh and governor sara palin both go on the record. good ♪ ♪ s[ applause ] >> glenn: from new york city, hello, america. tonight i want to tell you about something, and my wife was around here some place. i don't know if she knows this. but when we were on vacation, i was secretly at night under the covers with a flashlight reading this book. she really doesn't -- for some reason she thinks i should relax and not read books about nazis on our vacation. this came in from a viewer. of mine. it's an old book from 1944,

'43 or '44. "religion of nazi germany." it got me thinking. this is someone who i think was in germany and then went to poland. it didn't end well. i want to do a show tonight, not on this book. i want to do a show on something that i think is critically important. i have shown you this over here. faith, hope and charity. i've shown you the faith, hope and charity. sorry, oscar and nefrp the control room. oh, heavens, he's moving. it's the 40 day, 40 night challenge. what it is, it's a blueprint for our national survival. this is what i think we need to do to survive. basically, it's that we have to have firm reliance on protection of divine providence, the code in the declaration of independence. firm reliance on divine providence. we have can't have faith, we have to have more than faith. we have to, we have to know

personally that god is not on our side, but we are on his side. these are the steps i ask you to take. the four steps and challenge yourself to do these things in 40 days and 40 nights. to help the country survive. when i say something like that, because there is a fundamental misunderstanding of the tea party and small government people, that immediately goes to church and state. church and state. you can't have church and state. the evil christians will gobble up the state and then the next thing you know you'll have to have communion five days or week, otherwise you'll go to jail. i don't know what they think is going to happen. but that might happen if it was a progressive that was telling you these things. that's why jim wallis is so

dangerous. all the preacher surrounding the president are progressives. when you combine church and state, and you take a big government and you combine it with the church, to get people to do the things that the state wants you to do, it always ends in mass death. now the separation of church and state, where does it come from? what does it even mean? well is we have discussed before, it's from a letter that thomas jefferson wrote to the connecticut baptist when they feared the government might be getting between them and the way they worship. because baptist, that wasn't popular in connecticut at the time. they say wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

so what did he mean by that? does it mean that the state needs to be protected from the awe-inspiring power of the force? or it is possible the army of maurding pastors and nuns -- if you see the nuns coming after the state, look out. could it be the nuns and the bishops suddenly without warning will seize control of the government in some sort of creepy christian coup? no, i don't think so. for the record it's called "establishment clause." why is it called the establishment clause? it's in the first amendment. the establishment clause. this is what it says. congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. that's it. congress shall make no law.

not you shall not pray in public, or the people shall never refer to god in 700 feet of government property. or you'll never ever, we promise, you'll never be to offended by a manger scene. no. no. what it says is congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. what does that even mean? you have to go back to the time period. england. what had happened in england? why was the black robe regimen so important in the revolutionary war? because people were going to church. but whitefield make impression on people because he reject ed the church of the government. the church of england. he said this. this isn't about god. god needs to be between you two. god and you.

the state has no place in that. england had a state church. it went more than the church of england. you had to pay tithe. it was a tax there. wasn't an opportunity to worship as you chose. that's why whitefield didn't go preach in the churches. he had to do it out in the fields. that's where our founders were trying to guard against. they knew what would happen when a state said hey, wait a minute. we have these people who will listen to anything because they're stupid, i guess. and they'll just listen to whatever their pastor says. so, if we can co-op the state, we can get them to do anything. that's what they were guarding against. almost like what is happening with social justice and the progressives. now, the worst example of this in the last century, is probably the best example of what a state interfering in religion can do.

when hitler came to power in germany, he knew his deception of the german people would never be complete without using religion. that's exactly what he did. remember, hitler learned an awful lot of stuff from a guy named bernays. and bernays was the guy who when goebbels died they found the book by bernays on propaganda, an american author, an american that was with wilson in the office of goebbels. on propaganda. they say they learned prop -- propaganda, hitler learned it from the wilson administration. one thing that the wilson administration and progressives did at the time, they knew they had to destroy our faith and they knew they had to get social justice in there. hitler took it a million miles farther. he set out to draw christians to him, but explaining the seeds in "mein kampf" where he spoke of the creator and universe and eternal province.

he states his belief the aryan race was created by god and a sin to dill -- dilute it through racial mixing. he also professed in a speech that jesus was the one true god. well, one pastor who will be with us tonight told us of the story when hitler became chancellor of germany. he met with all of the leading pastors. he openly try stod reassure them -- tried to reassure them that the position of the church was secure. but he secretly was setting out to silence them. one of the men in the room was martin neimoler. he wasn't buying it at all. he wasn't buying it and he pushed his way to the front of the pastors. this was spooky dude. you have didn't go after this guy. he did. he went and he faced hitler right nose to nose. niemole told him, our concern is not for the church. jesus christ will take care of the church.

our concern is for the soul of the nation. no one had the guts to back him up. hitler smiled and said you can leave the soul of germany to me. from that sunday on, gestapo agents sat in the pew and wrote down everything he said. he was imprisoned in a concentration camp where he narrowly escaped execution. eventually through deception and intimidation, church and state merged. to the point where the pitcher of hitler wested on the altar of germany. they took down crosses and put him up. the state infiltrated and infected the church. not the other way around. i want to make it very, very clear. when i say you have to find god, i'm not saying we find a state religion and i'm not saying that that you mix the state with religion. i'm saying you find your

principles. teach man correct principles, that your relationship is with god, not the state. the state comes after this one. let your principles be your guide on how to vote. not how to rule. not how to control or manipulate people. many could not be that it had been coopted by evil dictator and others who did notice wouldn't cooperate and they were arrested. it got much, much worse. not only were there arrests of clergy, but incarceration, concentration camp, murder of religious opponent of the regime, physical assault on clergyman ignored by the police. remember, it's like nudging. you nudge and then you shove. you're going to, the farther you go, if you don't say

something in the beginning then you're watching someone beaten in the street and you're like gosh, i don't want that to happen to me. that's what happened. they should have said something at the first meeting and they didn't. there were seizures of churches. anything with the religious insignia was removed. here is a church. look at the government insignia. it's a church. church publications were censored. they were forbidden. to force all german churches to one state controlled church. surveillance of the services and leaders were happening. public attack on the church by nazi leaders, including goebbels and ultimately the persecution and holocaust of the jews for their faith and i guess for their blood type. what had begun by supposed religious people and

religious man, turned into something horrifyingly different. you will hear many people claim that hitler was a christian. they use hitler to make their point about how frightening christian fundamentalists can be. they always say this. but anyone who says that have not read history or have read history written by progressive, not the people that were there. joseph goebbels, hitler propaganda minister noted in a diary, conversation with hitler. he wrote and i quote "the furor is a man intuned to an tig wity. he hates christianity because it crippled all that is humanity." that sounds like michael moore. spear reports in his memoir of a similar statement made by hitler. "it's been our misfortune to have the wrong religion.

why didn't we have the religion of the japanese, or muhammadian religion that would have been much more compatible to us than christianity. why did it have to be christianity with the meekness and flatiness?" whenever you bring up germany and hitler, it's extreme but it's less extreme believe it or not than communism and russia. for as horrifying as it is, it's just been our media propaganda that hasn't made us really look and really remember the holocaust that happened in the other socialist state. the key is socialism. one never thinks or imagines that this can happen again. no one thinks it can happen here. well, did the germans think it could?

did the germans sit is there at night and go you know that hitler thing, that could end in concentration camps and the liquidation of the jews? did they really think that? fir relice on protection of divine providence because i

want you to be self-reliant. i know if you know your relationship with god no, man will ever, ever put you in a camp. no man will ever tell you that they can create a right, because you know who your rights come from. let me show you again. what nancy pelosi said to a gathering of catholic clergy a few months back. remember, huge government progressive. >> the subject of immigration. i think the church is going to have to play a very major role in how people are treated. the cardinals, archbishop, bishops that come to me and say i want you to pass immigration reform. i say but i want you to speak about it from the pulpit. some oppose immigration reform are sitting in those pews and you have to tell them that this is a manifestation of our living the gospel. >> glenn: so she wants them

to talk about what is the right bill to pass. i'll get up from my church, and i will walk out when my church starts to tell me who to vote for or how to vote. i want my church to teach me correct principles and i can figure it out. how do we treat each other? i don't want to hear about healthcare and how it's social justice and how great it is for me to have healthcare. i don't want that. you know why? that is a mixing of church and state. i do, however, want people to have firm reliance on divine providence and know, and know that our faith has benjamin franklin says, the american faith is there is a god that we have to answer to him when we meet him. he gets pithy, paraphrasing, if you haven't been a good dude. the best way to serve him is serve him and your fellow man missouri one has to talk to me about healthcare.

it's my job because of individual salvation to be charitable. that will serve god. that's the key. i don't think the progressives, they look at god as something they can use. again, here she is talking to a group of spiritual leaders about her -- i love this. about her favorite word. >> my favorite word is the word. is the word. and that is everything. and you know the biblical reference, you know the gospel reference of the word. it's -- we have to give voice to what that means in terms of public policy that would be in keeping with values. of the word. >> glenn: her favorite word -- not two words, her favorite word is the word. i love that. nancy, you have a different word than i do, i guess.

one of the president spiritual advisors jim wallis is also saying that marxism is what jesus was. watch. >> are you then calling for the redistribution of wealth in society? >> absolutely. without any hesation. that's what the gospel is all about. >> glenn: there couldn't be anything further from the truth. i've never felt charitable, i've never felt like i was serving god on april 15. i feel charitable when i give it. jesus didn't say give all that money to caesar. that person over there needs a coat. give your money to caesar and caesar will develop a program and buy that guy a pair of pants. then there is the president with his views on salvation.

>> my individual salvation is not going to come about without collective salvation for the country. >> my individual salvation rests on our collective salvation. >> my individual salvation always depends on collective salvation. >> glenn: always depends. this is where it gets dangerous. we talk about spirituality every day but we're not making public policy. we don't have the power. the opportunity to force our belief in law because my salvation is on collective salvation. it's a lie. dangerous trend. we'll talk about it next. f@@

[ applause ] >> glenn: all right. tonight we're talking about the infiltration of the government in to our faith. and you might think well, how can glenn beck possibly talk about this, because he talks about faith all the time? the difference is i'm a libertarian. i am for the smallest possible government we can get. faith, as george washington pointed out, strengthens your duty. strengthens all of the things, charity and everything else that you need

to do because you're serving god. so the government doesn't have to do it. when you have a progressive pushing this, it gets a little spooky. i want to bring in our guest. kitty worthman who knows all about the coopting of religion under government because she lived it under hitler. she was 12 years old when nazis took over her country and oh the tales she can tell. pastor lawrence white joined us from texas. he is the senior pastor of the savior lutheran church in houston. he delivers sermons regularly on this topic. the author of a new book, no, he's not the author of a new book. my next guest is. he is in the audience, ralph reid. he is the chairman of the faith and freedom coalition. he is the author of a great new book called "the confirmation." we will talk to him. i asked him to come because he's the boogie man. the left goes ralph reed --

[ gasping ] i want to talk to him about that. i want to talk about this. this is a story that broke on the 22nd on blaze.com. which is my new website for news and information. obama asks religious leaders to preach gospel of healthcare reform. we talk about this in a second and have the audience participate. first, go to kitty. may i call you kitty? >> yes. >> glenn: kitty, you moved over here to america. how old were you when you got here? >> about 22. >> glenn: okay. you lived under hitler and then you lived under stalin. correct? >> yes. >> glenn: when you saw the churches start to get coopted, what happened? how did that start? what is the first memory you have? >> well, what i distinctly remember i was 12 years old. i went to public school and i

was in sixth grade. after we elected hitler, i walked in my classroom and the crucifix was gone. there was hitler's picture and the nazi flag on each side. the teacher announced that today we don't pray anymore. we prayed in public school. we had religious education twice a week. that day we did not pray anymore. we would sing the national anthem. she said we wouldn't have religious education anymore, but physical education instead. on sunday, it was compulsory national youth day and we would go at 8:00 through the

gymnasium. the first two hours we had education -- >> glenn: state education. >> state education. political education. today we'll call it political indoctrination. we were told not to listen to our parents. they were old fashioned, old fogies. we should only listen to hitler. only to hitler. because he had the most interest in us. >> let me get back to your story, but pastor, have you seen -- kitty, i'll ask you this, too. have you seen any of this? i want to make this clear. this does not mean that it ends up in rounding people up in concentration camps or anything else. the idea, at least for me, when i hear "never forget,"

it's not to never forget the 8 million that died. you know, jews, plus. it's to never ever forget, to honor them by making sure it never happens again anywhere on earth! that's why rwanda, to me, was a nightmare. we promised not to forget. it happened anyway. are you seeing anything here similar? first to you. >> i think, glenn, whenever the state coopts the church or seeks to diminish the influence and relevance of a church in a culture and is successful in that, it happens by default. because the church has failed to be what the church is. martin niemowler who you referred to your introduction, after the war as germans are searching their consciences and trying to figure out how this could have happened in this nation with christian heritage

stretching back a thousand years and more, martin niemowle points out it wasn't hitler or gehring or goebbels, but us, the people of god and christ. who else would have known or had a standard by which they could have understood what was happening in their society? we didn't stop them. >> glenn: did your parents know? >> my parents immediately object objected, because my parents were very good christian people. when i would come from the end of sunday of all the fun we had, the rest of the sunday we had sports. we got all the equipment free, and we had so much fun. and we were told that we had rights. and we should, we had freedom. not to listen to our parents. when we'd go home, after all the fun we had on sunday, and also we were told by the

teacher if our parents would not send us on sunday, the first time they would get a stiff letter of warning. the second time they would be fined about $300 and the third time they would be put in jail. we were weaned away from our parents. they drove a wedge between us and the parents. >> glenn: i don't know about anybody else, but this doesn't sunday like stuff i heard from obama. this is stuff i heard from the u.n. al gore -- yeah. exactly right. back in just a second. george washington talked about self-regulation. the best way to regulate the self, the best way to be able to have freedom is to be able to have a system that allows people to self-regulate. i happen to be a deep believer in god and a recovering alcoholic. there is no way if it wasn't for my wife and god -- sorry, honey, not in that order -- i wouldn't be alive today. the founders fought for right for people to worship god and the way of their understanding. it's important to reorder things and get them back. what are we missing? what happened to us? god was the first principle that put him back in the proper place. coopting of religion by government is extraordinarily dangerous. kitty worthman is here. she grew up in australia under hitler.

the first thing hitler did, gave us free radios. if you listen to the foreign radio station it was a death penalty. he nationalized the banks. then he nationalized our car industry. austria had a little car. >> glenn: i think we know where you are going. >> glenn: does this keep you up at night? >> sometimes it does. nationalized education. that happened overnight when i walked in my classroom and the crucifix was gone.

then they nationalized healthcare. my brother-in-law would tell me it was like practicing medicine on the conveyor belt. they rushed to the doctor for everything and anything. many, many doctors left the country, including my own husband. >> glenn: okay. i have to take a break. then i want to come back. i want to talk to you. what did you say? then the audience. next. ñ÷

sons. we were on a research trip to germany. it took them one bleak december afternoon to a memorial of the concentration camp, just outside berlin. we went through the whole thing. they saw the museum and the horror photo of the inmate and two 25-year-olds of those jostling and joking got quieter and quieter as we walked through medical laboratories where grotesque experiments were performed without anesthetic because they were jews and gypsies. we have got to the creamtorial. three days after christmas, december 28, on ground there was a wreath. i read the inscription and it said from the christians of germany, we kneel before god in bitter regret and humble repentance and we ask his forgiveness for the death of the jews and all the others who perished in this retched

place. when they saw what could happen when the people of god failed to be the people of god -- >> glenn: ralph, you're the boogeyman. christian coalition. the worst. you're going to round up gays and anybody who is different. you're going to be baptizing people in the basement of the white house. you are the boogeyman that everyone will say. how do you respond to that? that you just want to control everyone through faith and government. glenn, we have seen this movie before. in 1994, at about this time, 16 years ago, almost to the day, the democratic congressional campaign committee held a news conference and said you can't elect a republican congress because christians will be in charge of the government. boo, aren't you scared? 54 house seats, ten senate

seats, including two switches. first republican congress in 40 years. yes, we had the ability to see our public policy goals realized. what were they? $500 per child tax credit to lower the crushing tax burden on the american family. banni banning partial birth abortion that 72% of the american supported. balancing the budget for the first time in 40 years. welfare reform. moving people from dependency and multi-generational poverty to initial self-initiative and dignity. that's what we wanted. main stream american values. was is dangerous isn't faith. it's not a threat to democracy. it's essential to the democracy. what is dangerous is when people of faith are told to be silent and shut up. in the confirmation, i have a man of faith nominated to the

supreme court, asked by the judiciary committee are you sure you can sit on the supreme court and separate your religious beliefs from your ruling? i didn't make that up. that actually happened. when alito was nominated to the supreme court, senator durbin of illinois said how can you as someone who is roman catholic and pro-life sit on the highest court in the land? when that is going on in america, it's scary. >> glenn: as i see it, church is for sunday. god as the founder's said, nature's law from nature's god is every day. that's why i believe we have to learn correct principles. then man will govern himself. if you realize it's wrong for this reason, when we manage

ourself or we don't need someone to nudge us or rule over us. back with the audience questions next.

and state, mark has a question. go ahead. >> putting the prayer back in our schools, putting god back in our country and inspiring people to find the courage to stand up for god and country. would turn our country around. would you stand for that? how would you do -- >> glenn: i absolutely would. restore what we did in -- reverse what we did in 1962. >> put prayer back in our -- >> glenn: if you look at the problems we had in the country they went straight line up after we did that. yes. >> my question is for kitty. as i listen to your story and i hear you say you recognize things that arep happening now, they make you whence because you have seen this before, to me, the difference of your story and the past and ours of the future, may be not just so much what happened but what we did about it. my question to you, looking back, what would you had done than let it happen.

can you see what you would have encouraged us to do in response? >> i'm a lobbyists and you can introduce legislation. you have to be very patient. >> glenn: it goes back to what you said. vote. your people elected hitler with 98%. >> yes. the germans voted their patriotism, they voted their pocketbooks. they didn't vote their conscious. if christians would vote their conscience, everything would be different. >> glenn: i can't believe people of all faith elect people we know are lying to us. know are not living decent lives. they represent us. they represent us. okay, does that represent us? in many cases it does. we must stop that. ralph? >> a lot of it is getting

organized based on internal values. if business is allowed to organize at the chamber of commerce and labor can organize with union but then they go to people of faith and say you can't do that. say in your stained glass ghetto. when they stay in the stained glass ghetto they take away everything else and come after you. >> glenn: you have to stand up together as coalition of people of faith. go ahead. >> it seems to be a great deal of similarities between early nazi socialism and what we're going through now in the country. what is the answer? how do you turn that back? >> right now, we are very blessed. educate the voters. it's already happening. so we can take the house back and hopefully the senate. >> glenn: america, all we have to do is strengthen ourselves. just strengthen ourselves.
